From the sounds of if you want to play Mario Kart 9, Mario Galaxy 3, etc. etc. or whatever Nintendo's future releases are starting in 2016/2017 ... you are going to have to play them on an Android system because NX is going to be Android based.

"Playing it safe" would imply Nintendo actually has some user base to "play it safe with". They are down to 7 million 3DS shipments this year and quite honestly they might not even hit that number. That is their lowest handheld shipment in 18 years going back before Pokemon was created. Let me put that in layman's terms: this is bad.

We know how crap the Wii U is doing. What they're doing now is suicide.

Beyond that no company in this business can support two distinct hardware platforms at once. Some Nintendo fans don't understand this concept, but continue to complain about Wii U and 3DS releases. Well what do you expect really? Sony/MS can't even release anything on the PS4, yet Nintendo being a smaller company than even Activision and EA is supposed to support two distinct traditional platforms? C'mon people. Wake up.

Actually, yes! 3rd parties are the reason consoles exist. Without them, they'd be all but dead!

Many third parties are bailing out of the traditional console model too.

Konami is out. Square-Enix is hedging more and more towards mobile.

Companies are not going to support a business structure that could bankrupt them if they have one or two games that don't sell as well as expected.

Hollywood Studios have that kind of funding, but game development studios don't, not unless you're EA and even EA has recently had monstrous layoffs.

Beyond that there already *are* two consoles that serve the role of "third party console" ... quite frankly the industry doesn't need (and doesn't seem to even want) Nintendo in that role.
