Nintendo should just wash their hands of the hardware pissing match.

NX is a SOFTWARE ecosystem.

You want a powerful console? Fine, there's a higher spec NX. You want something cheap? Great. There's a lower spec NX. You want a portable? Yup, we have that too, NX Tablet. etc. etc. etc.

Same games play across all the devices, effects and resolution/frame rate can scale up and down (PC has been doing it for 30 years+).

Shut the fuck up about hardware. Pick the one you want. We have games to sell.

That would be my philosophy if I'm Nintendo. Stop playing the game by Sony and MS' rules, they're not working for you, so change the rules.

That's even worse then what they're doing now, splitting up their fanbase. Also Nintendo isn't in any position to change any rules. They're not powerful enough in the console market to shift everything around and make a new standard. They need to try to eat away at Sony and Microsoft's fanbases before they think about anything else.

The rules are going to change with NX. Not because of Nintendo per say, but because it's already happening. Nintendo just might be the smart one in embracing the sea tide change rather than trying to swim upstream. The industry is changing, hard core gamers are the most blind to it though because they don't want to see it.

This formula of graphics improving 10 fold every generation and developers being asked to make games for new hardware of such high visual fidelity for the same $50-$60 could no go on forever either.

IMO a lot of devs, especially Japanese devs are going to say "thanks, but no thanks" to a Playstation 5. Western devs too.

I think this is in a lot of ways the last real traditional game cycle (that's existed since the 1970s). Mobile is changing too much.
