Not really...this isn't a retroactive change. The game is (theoretically) being balanced taking these changes into account. This means that instead of being able to cheese through hard fights by whipping out the OP weapon you've been saving, you will be expected to maintain a certain level of attack power through your characters and you will always be at or close to the point the game expects you to be at, leading to a more smooth difficulty curve.
The fact that this change was made by simply removing an element that was tedious and uninteresting makes me think that the change only makes things better.
