Well if the amendment didn't pass then it wouldn't have meant gay men or women would all have changed and turned straight just to make people who don't view 2 loving men or women as a "family" happy, just would mean that those couples would have had to be happy with civil partnership instead of being married just like every other couple is allowed to do.
Thankfully here in Ireland it was a really happy day for acceptance of others as a majority, by quite the margin as well.
