Funny that, it appears you've misread my post, I know exactly where Ireland is. What im saying is, the op says Ireland the first to doit, but what I'm saying is I'm positive England has already done this years ago as I've even been to a gay wedding a couple of years ago in England.

Aye tis like someone else here mentioned I think it was New Zealand where marriage was allowed for same sex couples, but it was decided by 80 members of parlament, Ireland was the first country to ask it's population as a whole if they would want to allow people to be married regardless of their gender and close to 1.3m people or 62% of the voters said they wanted equality so I think it's just a bigger message that the people of a country all agree that it's the right thing to do rather than some politicans in a room.
