Really? I've found more of an overwhelming number of oddly fundamentalist types here. Although to be honest, in 2015 when someone needs to broadcast their religion I think it's usually very suspect. I'm not referring to this thread, but like when people have to put it in everything - their footers, their responses, I find it offensive.
Personally, I'm best described as a Deist. Like Thomas Jefferson, I think there is some kind of divinity that gives us life, or the awareness of such. I think as we do great things we are more connected to that and it's in everyone. But I do not think it has any day to day involvement over who's wins a soccer game, or who get cancer, or what kids parents get murdered while they hide under the bed.
I don't think any one relgion is inherriantly better than any other. I have some friends that are Christans - in that they are more like Jesus than say an organized one. I also have Buddist, Wicca, Jewish, etc. friends. Many are super devout, but we respect each other.
I do find that when people say, "Everything happens for a reason" morally repugnant. Because you are saying some kids starving or being burned alive by their fire is happening for some ultimately good reason. It's ok to say, "I believe everything happens for a reason" because that's your personal opinion - that's fine.
I do think most organized religions are for the most part self serving and some downright evil.
