I don't think they would do well. Microsoft has very few franchises that could attract the japanese consumers, and 3rd party would go to PS and Nintendo consoles first unless Microsoft pays them. Even if it sells, the amount of money that would have to be invested on the thing would become the thing that kills the XBox brand in Japan.
