Wait just a second: perhaps you can still play privately with friends? Just not custom match types.

I'll be honest I've read through the article several times and the ambiguity confused me and still does, which is why I altered the OP and thread title several times. At first I thought it was just because of it being 3AM but looking at it now, it's just poorly worded. 

Hopefully clarity will be given sooner rather than later to dispel these fears, however until that time I'll be sure to edit the OP once more. Thanks for the spot.
