Nintendo has never been considered the cool console, ever. They've been never been considered edgy or anything of the sort. Nintendo prides itself of being the Videogame version of Disney aiming their product primarily at children and families. They don't grow up with their gamers so they tend not to be considered cool after kids get to a certain age. They are well appreciated, but people dont really go "HOLY ****" When they see it. Sega, Sony and MS have done those things, but they'Nintendo always has that first class first party...soo...its a toss up really.
Nintendo has always been run by a bunch of old men so their policies and outlook on gaming will come very slow. The only thing they'll ever be ahead of people on is ways to use tech.
