The area the game takes place isn't super interesting right from the start, and there's a village of duckmen. BUT...keep playing. Explore what you can, kill the optional bosses, and I hope it grows on you as much as it did me. (It was the last Suiko game I enjoyed; 4 was awful, and the Tactics game just didn't grab me.) The manga is pretty good too, if you're interested!

6 party members + guest/support unit. You can only control 3 pairs of characters though. Was an interesting choice, but I'm actually playing through it right now. Still been fun.
