I understand Nintendo's point of view. And I know they are very protective with their IPs. There's actually a lof of Nintendo channels on YT, like Gamexplain, one of the best gaming channels in my opinion. But if you know, and I'm sure Nintendo knows, that youtubers have a massive influence in the gaming market, don't piss them off. Sure, Nintendo doesn't want anyone bad-mouthing the company, but they are getting the opposite effect with this. Lately, in any gaming forum, you see a lot of threads like this. I'm starting to think that Nintendo is getting more hate than they think, and I'm not sure if the strategy Nintendo is following is the right thing to do, as a company, as a bussiness. I don't think the youtube program is bad per se, but, the 40/60 percentage seems wrong to me. Sure, they are using Nintendo IPs, but, youtubers are doing the hard work (you have to think what you are going to do, make the video...). Wether I like them or not, it's like a job. So I think that maybe 95/5 is fair. And I know, even with this, a lot of people will be angry, but, I think that Nintendo has their rights over their IPs and it's also fair that they make a little revenue. |
That's just the thing, I don't think Nintendo wants people making the videos. They were never dependant on people making videos and it seems like they really don't care about people making the videos. If anything, it's content. Nintendo has gone all around youtube, flagging both good videos and bad videos, you know what i mean, right? Some dude with a video capture program, say pewdiepie, and then the video is lackluster, Pewdiepie starts hollering like an idiot, and then he would get some of the revenue for something fast, simple and lack of hard work and most of all lack of quality. I'm not saying Pewdiepie isn't hard working, simply the content he produces are just...low quality. This is just an opinion of course.
And this is what gets me upset and why I think Nintendo implemented this program in the first place. They don't want to be subservient to the protest of Youtubers, they want to control and rally those that are on their side. By that, I mean the youtubers who are willing to go along with their restrictions. I've always had this theory about their program, with the 40/60 share. I read somewhere that for now, this is the model and in the future they could easily change the model to a 60/40 or even 95/5 towards the youtubers. Well, the thing is giving 95/5 to youtubers right off the bat without control on their part is kind of a non-Nintendo thing to do. The share ratio isn't set in stone, but in the future, what if the 1% of all Nintendo youtubers that stayed along with all the restrictions were to be given a loyalty boost since they've been with them like a loyal employee. Nintendo is a business, so why not upgrade those loyal to you. It's not hard for them to do, just have lawyers write up the papers and then boom, better Youtube encentives for those who didn't bail. I'm not looking at you Angry Joe, you made like 4 nintendo videos in like ever., you have no right to be as vocal as you are about their policies.
I'm just saying, the cream will rise, but having a pot full of youtubers and they're all the same and they're all lack of quality and boring, this leaves your meal irky and nasty looking.
