This is the same Nintendo that does things the Nintendo way and I don't know why this was a surprise to some people when you know that their online and everything else Nintendo does is their own thing. This is how I see it. Nintendo likes control of their product, something we already know. Now, here are people like you or me going online and becoming fanfictionist, receiving money for something Nintendo considers part of their IP. And we all love fan fiction, right, we don't ever make fun of people for writing fanfiction, which that is what people on Youtube are doing; creating fanfiction. There's something to say about the official Youtubers who go on Youtube and are following nintendo's strict guidelines, these youtubers are professionals for not breaking the 4th wall of the media. For them, they garner the official Nintendo seal of approval, they get money for working professionally in a Nintendo approved account. You can be Pewdiepie or even Angry Joe and go about online talk about the company, talk about their games, talk about the institutions that make Nintendo Nintendo. But look at that and tell me it's not a bad thing for Nintendo to do let the imates run the asylum. It's like having a pet dog and you're okay with them biting you over and over again. Nintendo is a Business and when you have a business with people making money off of you, you as a Company would not want your employees bad-mouthing the company. To hell with the free advertisment when one of the people who're doing your videos and making your money are ranting and raving over your product being terrible or bad or even people becoming bad representatives of your company. What if your child, a representive of you, were telling peop0le you were a bad mother, but you still paid them. Sure, not everyone is going to be that way, but what if a Nazi-sentimentalist is also a die hard Nintendo fan and is making heated waves online and receiving money because of Nintendo. As a company, that would be something Nintendo could not let go, business wise and ethically. I get fan anger, the ones who don't make videos no less, and I get what Nintendo is doing. Youtubers do have a lot of influence nowadays, but that could be a bad thing. This way, at least Nintendo can work with the professionals that are willing to play their ball game. |
I understand Nintendo's point of view. And I know they are very protective with their IPs. There's actually a lof of Nintendo channels on YT, like Gamexplain, one of the best gaming channels in my opinion. But if you know, and I'm sure Nintendo knows, that youtubers have a massive influence in the gaming market, don't piss them off. Sure, Nintendo doesn't want anyone bad-mouthing the company, but they are getting the opposite effect with this. Lately, in any gaming forum, you see a lot of threads like this. I'm starting to think that Nintendo is getting more hate than they think, and I'm not sure if the strategy Nintendo is following is the right thing to do, as a company, as a bussiness. I don't think the youtube program is bad per se, but, the 40/60 percentage seems wrong to me. Sure, they are using Nintendo IPs, but, youtubers are doing the hard work (you have to think what you are going to do, make the video...). Wether I like them or not, it's like a job. So I think that maybe 95/5 is fair. And I know, even with this, a lot of people will be angry, but, I think that Nintendo has their rights over their IPs and it's also fair that they make a little revenue.
