Nintendo royally fucked themselves this gen... or did they? See, I believe the Wii/DS were anomalies. Their consoles have been selling less and less since the release of the NES. I believe this is a continuation of said trend. Of course, they can always change that course either by getting lucky with another Wii again or making a traditional console.
They can be relevant next gen but this gen really did them no favors. They've been hurting their reputation most of the time the Wii U's been out with delay after delay, sticking with the ancient practice of region locking (the 3DS really didn't need it..), harmful policies, among other things.
If they play their cards right they can become relevant again next generation.
