I am somewhat turned off by the over arching anime-like direction, but not enough for it to spoil the games for me. Anime exists, and it seems Fire Emblem has moved in that direction in terms of characterization. Just something we have to either accept or move on from.
I'm into this series for the gameplay and sometimes story, not "lack of waifu/anime-style centralization" And there's no harm from a marriage system which gives you new units and creates potential relationships for you to connect to. If you don't like it, it's easily avoidable.
