I think a new crash would be a bold and awesome move. With mobile games and indie titles being all the rage, some decent support to build a crash game as a larger digital title would be a great idea. They could make it the ultimate mashup of gameplay styles and minigames. From its tunnel platform roots to puzzles, to shmups, to racing, to basically anything and everything.
I see crash as being a great character to mold into that kind of thing, similar to how mario can do almost any game type. Maybe it's too late for Crash to come back, but I think there are enough core gamers in the market to support a title with some scope that Activision could up its PR by overtaking the use of Crash as a mascot. He'd be edgy enough to appeal to a younger audience, especially mixed with gameplay from popular titles tossed in, and the older crowd would rally its coolness on the internet. And yes I'm talking about in full costume for TV commercials and youtube ads. Maybe a getting out of retirement intro with subsequent shenanigans ads messing with people/gamers/other games, etc.
Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(
