I haven't actually voted yet, but here's what fighters I plan on voting for when the time comes. Note that I am assuming that Inkling DLC is already in the works, so Splatoon is not going to be referred to.
- Absol - I'm going to include a total of three Pokemon here, both due to the potential these fighters bring and the fact that Pokemon arguably lost representatives going from Brawl to 3DS/Wii U (unless you include Mewtwo coming months later). Absol is my pick for the Gen 3 Pokemon to join the roster for a few reasons. First, I feel that having a quadruped fighter would be an interesting change. Absol's abilities make it something of a strong physical hitter that isn't too slow, but its lack of arms can make it hard to grab and throw with. It would also have a worse aerial game than average, though not as bad as Little Mac. Absol's moves in Pokemon, meanwhile, would make an interesting group of moves for Smash Bros. On one end of the spectrum, moves like Quick Attack would be fast and reliable hitters, but have little impact. Razor Wind could be a powerful projectile, but would require a charge time that leave Absol vulnerable. Swords Dance could be used to power up attacks for a short period, Suck Punch would work kind of like Counter, and Mega Absol is an obvious Final Smash.
- Captain Syrup (Wario Land series) - Smash Bros is lacking playable villains, especially those that aren't heavyweights, so why not give Wario's other nemesis a shot? As the main antagonist of Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, Wario Land 2, and Shake It for the Wii, she is arguably the best representative of the series other than Wario himself. She is fought a couple of times, with a nice set of weapons including bombs, robots, and mystical genies that shoot fireballs. She'd be a relative oddball in terms of playstyle, but having a non-heavyweight antagonist fighter would be great.
- Golurk - Some people say Pokemon's fifth generation had the worst new Pokemon. To this, I reply "Ancient Jet Golems!!!1!" In all seriousness, Golurk solves the opposite problem of Captain Syrup by being a non-antagonist heavyweight. But other than being one of the best ideas for a Pokemon ever, Golurk is a better fit for Smash than most Pokemon. Though big and heavy, it would have a fairly good air game, thanks to its built in rocketing abilities. Sort of like Dedede, but change the slow but precise series of mid-air hops into a fast but slightly hard to control mid-air dash. Ironically, it would actually be much slower on the ground, being a big and slow target that relies on bulk and power. It would rely heavily on its Smash Attacks, which take the form of powerful punches. Other attacks may include Phantom Force, a move unaffected by enemy shields, Iron Defense, which would reduce knock-back, Curse, which would have Golurk receive significant damage in exchange for more powerful hits, and Night Shade, a simple projectile attack that does damage based on Golurk's own status.
- Heracross - I'm really sorry about all these Pokemon, but this is the last one. Heracross is probably my #1 underdog pick for DLC in Smash. First, its basic design is an interesting concept for this sort of game. A relatively short and light character with strong and heavy attacks, it is something of a glass cannon. It can fly around using its usually hidden wings, but not as effectively as Kirby or Charizard would. What Heracross's real gimmick would be is the best part though: channeling Zangief. Across the Pokemon franchise, Heracross has often been seen using its horn and arms to grab and throw around opponents. Transferring this into Smash Bros would make Heracross into a grappler, something pretty rare in this series. Look at the Beetle power from Kirby: Triple Deluxe for some visual cues. In short, Heracross would be the most "up close and personal" fighter so far in the series. He would also have trouble with wider stage, due to a complete lack of projectiles and unremarkable speed, but would at least be good at vertically oriented movement and recoveries, thanks to its flight and a couple of possible moves to recover with.
- Isaac - This one is already mentioned by other people, but I also think that Isaac is not a bad idea. Though technically a swordsman, something far from unheeard of by this point, his magic abilities (I know that its actually psyenergy or something, but I haven't played through Golden Sun yet) add new twists. These include the Move skill, aka a magical big green hand that pushes things, Retreat, which can be reinterpreted as an unconventional way of moving to a specific point on the stage, and so on. In short, think about how Robin differs from Marth and co, and push it to the next level.
- Kamek - Thinking specifically about his appearence in Yoshi games, Kamek would be a good second character to represent Yoshi games. Also note that he is a non-heavyweight antagonist, which as already mentioned is welcome. Riding on his trademark broom, Kamek is distinct from both Bowser and Jr, being a light and fast character that flies through the air with ease. His own fighting prowess is rarely a major part in his Yoshi or Mario series appearences, but there is far more to work with than there was for Peach in Melee. Kamek can use a number of projectile spells, summon Toadies to grab enemies similar to Peach's summoning Toad for a shield, teleport much like Mewtwo, run through enemies via broomstick, and so on. Regular attacks would likely be weak, but the aerial and special attacks would more than make up for it. And of course, if all else fails, Giant Baby Bowser would be an excellent Final Smash.
- Prince Fluff - Though I'm hesitant to include another Kirby character, especially since Sakurai has included a lot of his own characters in Smash Bros recently, Prince Fluff from Kirby's Epic Yarn is too tempting to resist. Though his moveset is identical to Kirby's in Epic Yarn, it still ends up being very different from Kirby's abilities in Smash Bros. Like in Epic Yarn, Prince Fluff will constantly shapeshift as he does different actions. He becomes a car when dashing, a weight that crushes enemies below when doing a down special, and so on. Whiping enemies and throwing them around like in Epic Yarn is likely Prince Fluff's main form of basic attacks, and he can turn into a giant tank for a Final Smash.
I might add more later, but I plan on voting for these guys at least.
