That may be true but I don't consider trying to shoe-horn one genre into another, because of superficial similiarities, evolution. I agree that Metroid can evolve but making it more like Halo in the ways described is not the path to take.
I would also like to point out that Metroid had multiplayer once, fans were few and far betwween.
