Nope, OP is right : new hardware brings new innovations, new capabilities and therefore new ways to attract the costumer, which 3rd parties could take advantage of.

3DS is on the wane because Vita/PS4/PS3 produce superior visual quality, so Ninty needs a powerful NX to keep up.

3DS 18.5mil+ PS3/PS4/Vita under 16mil....... Yeah, noooo....
