| pokoko said: I had a discussion at work today that left me somewhat rattled. I was speaking with a co-worker, one who is also into gaming. It went something like this:
poko: "Oh, yeah, did you hear? They're planning on making a Robotech movie." co-worker: "Robotech?" poko: "Uh. Yeah, you know ... Robotech. Macross." co-worker: "What's that?"
At this point, I was totally confuzzled. The possibility of that kind of response never entered my mind. I said something out of desperation that I really did not want to say.
poko: "Yeah, with the ... the fighter planes that turn into robots. Like ... like Gundam." co-worker: "Oh, okay! Well, if it's like Gundam, it might be alright, then."
It just totally popped my bubble. Freakin' Macross! Not that I blame him, I guess Robotech never got big in the US. Still, though, I used to read the novels and the story is so awesome. I guess it's not nearly as big a deal as I thought. |
I never heard of Robotech until yesterday and Macross isn't that big either. It will always just be that "thing that is like Gundam". No one who isn't into anime will even know what Macross is.
