Well Mario Strikers fills in that whole, maybe something like Super Mario Sunshine HD for the summer. Supposedly, Wind Waker HD was developed by like 4 people in 6 months or something. |
I think Next Level is working on Luigi's Mansion 3 not Mario Strikers, but that's usually Nintendo's standard procedure with 2nd party developers -- if something does well, a sequel is pretty much immediately greenlit.
Luigi's Mansion is by far Next Level's best selling game, Nintendo generally does not let any franchise IP that's above 3 million WW sit idle. If you're in that 3 mill+ range, you're now in the big boys club as far as Nintendo is concerned and if you're a Western studio, lol, hope you like that IP because Nintendo will have you working on it for a long, long time.
Any number of studios could poop out a generic Mario sports game, they don't really need Next Level to do that. The Sega team that does the Mario/Sonic Olympic games for example or Camelot (the Mario Tenns/Golf guys) could do it, or say nd Cube (the Mario Party guys) or Bandai-Namco which did do Mario Sluggers in the past and seem to be working on every third Nintendo game these days.
