| Curmudgeon said: It's not 'obvious' because you base it on way to much assumptions. New Zelda will definitely launch on Wii U. There is some chance it will also be on NX, but I still seriously doubt it. Nintendo delays games all the time. Doesn't have to be anything more. For all we know they just skip E3 because it was supposed to be playable this year, but they feel it's not ready for that yet. |
E3 is largely a digital event for Nintendo these days. Why not show a trailer?
A game missing an E3 entirely after being shown the previous E3 is almost never a good thing either. Something is up IMO.
Lets be honest too -- moving Zelda Twilight Princess to be on both the Wii and GameCube, likely made the game sell 3-5 million extra copies that it wouldn't have otherwise. That's a huge net profit they pulled in from that decision.
Can't really argue with cold, hard dollars. We've seen this exact same script before (Zelda game coming late in a underperforming Nintendo console's life cycle ... Nintendo bails and opts to position it as a launch title for the next Nintendo platform instead).
Nintendo is actually not that rabidly unpredictable. Usually if something makes them money, they end up trying the same thing again. Remember when everyone thought Retro was working on some amazing new IP or new Metroid and it turned out to be DKC? Well really that shouldn't have been a surprise if you actually looked at the sales numbers ... DKCR was by far Retro's best selling game, Nintendo putting Retro immediately to work on another DKC shouldn't have surprised anyone.
