| Dodece said: I know I am going to be torched terribly for this, but firings at Retro would be a very positive sign. A sign that Nintendo is getting serious about the studio, and frankly it is about damned time. The studio needs to be expanded in a bad way, and its geographical location is prime real estate for expansion. Retro has the potential to be nurtured into a fantastic first party studio that should bring two or even three mature titles to the Nintendo platform annually. Rather Then one title every two to three years. Nintendo really needs to dial it up in the field of mature gaming. The worst thing for Nintendo to do is commit to full scale mining of the casual market. Nobody knows how strong or how long that market will hold up, but its always a good idea to diversify your offerings. I suspect as do many on these forums that the mature gaming market is passing over the Wii in favor of the other two consoles which have a stronger core or hardcore presence. Yes Nintendo is doing well now, but if history has taught us anything its that such situations get Nintendo in trouble. They become fat, lazy, and complacent. They really need to address the mature aspect of gaming with their own response, because third party developers are not likely to do it on their behalf. Nintendo has a philosophy about not buying third party studios, and there is nothing wrong with that. However it would be prudent of them to invest more resources and attention into the few that they have. Use their current market position and the capitol it affords them to strengthen their first party lineup. Why have Retro be a one trick pony. The studio is in the right place in the right market with a good reputation. Nintendo has glutted itself on two cash cows. Why wait for the inevitable kiddie back lash that smashed them in the previous two generations. This is the right time to get serious about mature gaming. Solving one of their biggest problems of the last ten years. Were this rumor to be true it could signal a very positive development. Who wouldn't want to see Retro become a real player in the console wars? I just see it as wasteful if Nintendo isn't formulating a better strategy for Retro. |
QFT Nintendo needs to use retro more. I would love nintendo to give retro something other than metroid. Yes I love metroid , but let somebody else take it back to it's 2d roots, and give retro a few new ips to do. Retro could be their tool to attract the hardcore 360/ps3 gamers to the wii.
