What's going on with Nintendo not having a direct worldwide since Jan?

I heard they rented out the most floor space at E3. Wasn't there also news about them renting a conference room for a live conference? If all this is true, then it means that they are most likely stacking their deck for E3, which isn't a bad thing to do.
