What is the best software for maintaining PC health? Viruses, spyware, etc.

I use AVG Free and I have no problems with steam. Thats odd.

Late last year it was constantly causing my Community overlay to hang or crash...removing AVG solved the problem, so I guess I've been hesitant to use it again.

Then again that was when I had Vista...
