I'd actually say that there are some industries where the bare minimum to keep the doors open is really all you "need" to do.

I'd imagine quite a few companies fall under this distinction just making/doing enough to keep the doors open while waiting for that cult sensation that will move them up in the pecking order just long enough for them to cave in, be acquired, and grant the owners a nice large paycheck for their time.


 You are probably right about that. But I could say what those companies are doing is their form of adapting.
