I was a little bit like this with Sony.

Loved the PS1 to bits, fell out of love with the comparatively soulless and bland PS2, was briefly interested again by the PS3, only to be disenchanted once more by PS4.

Playstations always start slow. Sony's first, second and third party take a little while to beef up. Remember when the PS3 had no games? Remember when God of War launched? Ico was underrated because no one knew what it was and the same with Uncharted. Shadow of the Colossus was also underrated and came three years later. There were plenty more games, but Sony's best always comes around two to three years after launch. Their beginning of their cycles are never really that great, which is why I always have a secondary console to fill in the gaps. The last three gens its been the Xbox which has accompanied it but before that it was Nintendo and Sega.

Yeah, I'm aware of PS's slow start pattern. Which is why I am open to changing my mind about PS4 if they step their game up.

Even by the end of its life though, PS2 just didn't have that celebration of games as games that PS1 (and Nintendo's systems) have.
