You'll still need 1. The phone games will be small spin offs type of  games, maybe companion games and apps to the 'main' games.

The main titles will remain handheld/console exclusive for sure, they're not abandoning their dedicated gaming system.

Expect Pokemon shuffle, no 'true' pokemon game

You don't know that. For all we know the main Pokemon games can a home on smartphones. It's not a game get requires intricate controls.

The wording from the transcript basically tells us that.  They are interested in selling us their propritary platforms using the games to instill the need for it. So giving the mobile market a fully functional pokemon game probally isn't in the cards. If it is Pokemon you might want to think more along the lines of the Pokewalkers they released. Where the game will access the Pokemon bank and you can build up by doing simple minigamess and maybe do a little pvp with people on your friends list. And the standalone games will be more like Pokemon Shuffle and they may use some of the more neglected IPs someone elsewhere mentioned an Advanced wars game.

I'm thinking most of the games will be playable by themselves but will have a major hook to try to get you to buy the full game elsewhere. I mentioned this elsewhere but a game where you play some of the minigames in Animal Crossing to make bells and win items that can only be used in the full game.
