Emily Rogers can say what she wants, it sounds like that isn't going to be the case though. Iwata specifically said no Nintendo IP is off limits for smartphone during the presser.
Nintendo is doing this to make money.
They are going to make a ton of money off things like Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, New Super Mario, Amiibo, etc. on iOS/Android and they know it.
