No. The Nintendo 64... played 64 bit games so therefore they called it a Nintendo 64. The DS, a Duel Screen so it is a DS. the 3DS, a duel screen in 3D, so it is a 3DS. The gamecube, it plays games and is in the chape of a cube to the gamecube. The Wii..... this one I thing is the most imaginative, maybe the gameboy. The Wii U, The Wii was successful so they thought they could ride that success. The NES, it entertained people and was from Nintendo so the Nintendo Entrainment system. The Super Nintendo, it was better than the NES so it was Super compared to it to the Super Nintendo. The Gameboy colour... it was a Gameboy that was in colour so the Gameboy Colour. The Gameboy Advanced.... it was the next in the generation so it was "advanced compared to the other two so it was the gameboy advanced. The New 3DS, it's new so therefore the New 3DS.
Conclusion - Nintendo is sloppy when it comes to thinking of names.
