Okay, so here goes. Lets say that these A-Mii-bo kiosks end up costing Nintendo around $1000(this would include RnD, printer cost, graphic design, firmware for the printer, plastic, store space, shipping, etc.) and there are 6,614 total Gamestop's world wide. Quick math says that would cost Nintendo roughly $6,614,000 in initial cost. Somewhere around 100,000 Amiibo have been sold so far in the last 4 months. Custom Amiibo wouldn't be as popular of course because as it stands they wouldn't be integrated in any game. So let's ballpark some reasonable numbers. Lets say after one year that 100,000 custom Amiibo are sold. At 20 bucks a pop(Nintendo's cut would probably be closer to around 10-12 bucks) thats only 2mill, meaning that it would take a minium of a little over three years for Nintendo to recoup their investment. Don't get me wrong. I love this idea, but it'll never happen... or really even be a good move by Nintendo. |
Amiibos are already integreated into many games. The chip in the amiibo would just activate that character. I doubt they would have to be in every gamestop in the world. Maybe in a quarter of them. It would just be for hype and nice advertisement. Heck, on my house alone we would probably buy 3 and I wouldn't buy any of the current amiibos.
