Not going to read all the responses here, so if I say something someone else has already said that will be why.
I think whether Nintendo will use an HD screen or not heavily depends on whether or not they will implement other screen technologies (like with the 3D screen, the resolution was sacrificed some for the 3D). If Nintendo does a simple screen system, then HD should easily be a possibility (even with the Nintendo 'standard').
