To me, the original felt like an epic space opera, akin to the original Star Wars trilogy. Compared to 64, the music was more bombastic and atmospheric, your teammates actually died for good if you didn't save them instead of retiring for repairs, and the bosses were more memorable and intimidating.

As good as it was, 64 felt more like a saturday morning cartoon to me.
