Since Wii U failed, what should Nintendo have done to follow up the Wii's success?

I actually don't think they could've have done anything since they almost completely dropped support for the Wii during the last couple of years before the release of the WiiU. Had they supported the Wii more and marketed the WiiU more more clearer as a successor, they would have had more success.
