Yeah, there is definitely confusion about the Wii U. But Nintendo is to blame for that. They didn't do a good job at distinguishing Wii U from its predecessor. Hence, I have a lot to blame Nintendo for before I even blame 3rd parties for Wii U's failure.

Nintendo absolutely must take some of the blame. I just don't think they are solely responsible.

They're fundamentally responsbile for the failure of Wii U.

Sony and MS don't just want 3rd party support, getting support is arguably their primary focus. Its gotten to the point they compete for advertising of multiplat games. They've been doing bundling of 3rd party games as well.

Nintendo's strategy has been a Mario game in every box and they get a niche exclusive on occasion. Nintendo did go to Sega for exclusive Sonic games and that was ultimately a terrible idea.

They are not solely reponsible for the failure of third parties on the system though. The third parties did a great job of messing that up themselves.
