Yeah, there is definitely confusion about the Wii U. But Nintendo is to blame for that. They didn't do a good job at distinguishing Wii U from its predecessor. Hence, I have a lot to blame Nintendo for before I even blame 3rd parties for Wii U's failure.

Nintendo absolutely must take some of the blame. I just don't think they are solely responsible.
