The Wii U's games just aren't as big this year as MK8 & Smash. Zelda will be the biggest IMO. Mario Maker, Splatoon, Kirby, Party etc. aren't going to make big waves. Xenoblade is going to sell well to it's fans, but you have to ask, would people who consider any of this year's games have a Wii U already? I think they would.
Also a headwind against Wii U is it's quite poorly represented in some stores like Best Buy, with very patchy availability of systems and games.
