So what they want from Nintendo is pretty much a Vita with a unified OS

Contexually there's nothing wrong with the Vita. Sony just can't support a handheld platform on its own, whereas Nintendo can.

Or you could say a Wii U tablet controller, slimmed down considerably with the chipset inside the controller if that analogy floats your boat better.
