I think many have taken 'outshine' to mean different things but if you meant simply to be of greater quality then that's certainly possibly.
Xenoblade had stellar reviews, the developer claimed it was only a practice run. If we are to believe this then I think it had a fair chance of being one of the highest rated games of the generation. If this comes to fruition then Zelda will need to be at the top of its game to surpass Xenoblade X, Eiji Aonuma has even said as much.
One things for sure, gamers are going to win.
