I try to buy as many 3rd party titles for Wii U as I can get my hands on. The funny thing is that the ports are not as bad as people like to say they are. Are they perfect? No. I have no illusions about their quality vs the hardware. But if those games are on Wii U I'll usually find a way to buy them.
I've been saying this for a while and I stand by it. Nintendo needs to operate like they will never get a 3rd party port ever again and take action to make up for it. They need to create a team who's sole purpose is to port games to Wii U and whatever future system they make. Nintendo works out a deal with a publisher to have their team port the game, and Nintendo gets most of the profit after the licensing fees are paid to the 3rd party publisher.
Yes, the games will be late coming to Wii U, but with the Nintendo team you know the game will be up to their standards. This will be the most practical way to go about the lack of 3rd party games. Even if it only means an extra couple games for Wii U each year, it will be valuable experience for them going forward.
