The thing with mobile gaming it's mostly a chain of rapidfire succeces like Candy Crush Saga, but those eventually fade away (has been ages since I saw someone Canfdy Crushing). In Japan, a large group of commutors in the metro's use smartphones, but a significant amount of people and kids also use 3DS' there. IAP games are already starting to oversaturate the Playstore and cannibalize their own market. In 2 years time, the mobile gaming expential growth will have seized and will have setlled. |
The thing is mobile gaming isn't dependant on Candy Crush, Candy Crush is just what's hot now, next year it will be something else.
Sounds like you live in Japan, I would expect to see more dedicated handhelds there. In North America and Europe where I travel a lot, in airports especially I see maybe 1 DS/3DS/Vita for every 10-15 people playing on a phone or tablet. It's really becoming lopsided.
