So I've been crunching the numbers and it looks like XB1 may very well have beat 3DS in 2014, at least shipped.
3DS shipped 7.67m units
XB1 is harder to tell, but guesstimates put XB1 shipments at 4.5m~ (out of the 6.6m, so 2.1m for 360)
This is 8m for XB1.
This is surprising because VGC shows a 1.6m sell through gap that doesn't make sense.
