Since Selma isn't up for those individual awards the best picture nomination was merely a pity nomination.

Except for the last two years those awards have all gone to different movies.

Also since 2009 they expanded the flied of how many movies can be nominated for best picture it can be up to 10 since then so being best picture and best director winner at the same time is now less likely.
