Its like a penny. One of them is practically nothing. Just like one achievement. But once you start to get a ton of them, they add up. Especially if you are someone who gets games with a ton of achievements and a lot of games. Also, if you don't or can't buy external memory holders, then it really will add up.

achievements are tiny, like really tiny.
A standard 360 profile is about 2MB of size, my current profile is 89MB with 604 games played and a total of 22792 achievements (it doesn't matter if they're unlocked or not).
That's still low enough to fit on the internal memory of the arcade 360 and/or Wii. On 8th gen console it's even less of a concern. (although the profiles might very well be a bit bigger there)
