Yeah, and when an automaker makes a lot of money off of motorcycles, they ignore those profits because "they don't count". Whether a burger joint makes most of its money on happy meals or the big mac, they're still slinging burgers. Do you think Sony wouldn't be happier if the Vita were the dominant console worldwide? With the rise of mobile gaming (even here in the US), it's about high time we quit pretending that home consoles are the overall measure of success for a videogame company. |
This has nothing to do about ignoring profits in one part of business! Should we start to include the profits of music and film divisions of SCEA and just say that Sony is the larger entertainment brand instead? No, we should not.
Handhelds and Home consoles are two vastly different markets. They have a few defining characteristics. For example, Home Consoles have always had much higher attach rates than Handhelds. This can be seen by looking at software sales of the DS vs the PS3 or the 360. Both the 360 and the PS3 has sold quite a bit more software, even though they have sold only a bit more than half of what the DS has. Second of all, if you look at Home Console sales in relation to Handheld sales, strong handheld sales have never meant anything for the sales of the homeconsole, or vice cersa.
