Look up the developers of Rage and why they decided to invest in consoles over PC as a priority. I believe they are the same guys who created Doom. The plans to support the PS3 and 360 were already in full swing because at the time they were considered on par with PC. Also, valve wasnt where it is today. It was still growing.
