What I mean is, making something HD from something not HD takes 30 seconds of work.

The hard part of an HD remake, the texture/lighting upgrade, was done by them. Therefore they have done 99.5% of what it takes to do an HD remake of Mario 64. And the other part you can do yourself.

Mario 64 DS may have had new textures but it certainly didn't have HD textures. Though, looking at a comparison between the two, I'm impressed by what they got out of the DS hardware.
