It's the same situation with Mario Galaxy/Galaxy 2, they had a ton of ideas but couldn't fit them all in one game so they made a sequel, the only difference is that both Galaxy games released on Wii while the Z donkey Kong games are split on Wii/Wii U. Also considering the fact it was Retro's first HD game, they probably couldn't push the hardware to its fullest without also pushing the release date back even further. |
Don't get me wrong, I love Tropical Freeze, it's my #2 top game of 2014.
It's just that for their next project I want to see something a bit more ambitious.
