Because many of us who wanted to be able to use the gamecube controller in the first place already have the controllers...why else would we be so adamant about getting to use them?
I, for instance. Have 5 gamecube controllers (4 wired, and a Wavebird) and I would be really unhappy if I needed to buy a whole new set of controllers when Nintendo could have easily just made an adapter. Also, I imagine the controller would feel cheap compared to the old GC controllers. Even the new ones are obviously of a lower build quality than the origionals.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.
