Wired controllers offer less input lag than wireless controllers because the input is being read by a direct feed. In fighting games, that is paramount. Most casual players won't even notice, but core players can feel if their input is delayed by even a single frame.

Losing a match because your controller could not keep up with your reaction time can be incredebly frustrating to hardcore fighting game players.

Lol this is just wrong as far as I know. Wireless controllers present little to no lag certainly not enough for people to even notice it.

You could have a point, but Spemanig is right.  If you spend any time on a competitive smash forum you will find that many pros won't touch a wireless controller due to concerns over input lag (whether this is psychological or actual).  There are also WiFi interference concerns during tournaments where lots of wireless controllers are being used.
