What "momentum" would a console carry through January or February lol?

They can raise the price and not lose much of anything in sales as people don't buy much hardware in these months anyway. And then do another deal later in the year.

If they keep the price then they must be making good money via digital sales/XBL subscriptions.

XBox One is selling on par and/or above PS4 because of it's lower price tag. This is allowing it to gain momentum in the US while dwindling the install base gap. Increasing the price again will only place the XBox One back to where it was pre-$350 sale if not lower.

I also guess you believe consoles do not sell well in January-March, in which case you are wrong. Just check previous NPD sales. For example, in 2012 the XBox 360 sold 270k in the US alone for January and 281k in January 2013, which I believe it more than it sold in September 2013 which had GTAV according to year to date NPD numbers given at that time. This is likely due to gift cards people recieved during Christmas season. For February and March we have this wonderful thing called a tax return which can also spur sales. There are reasons why many games are seeing early year releases now. Console actually do sell well in this months. It isn't only about September-December like that fool Greenberg tries to imply.

Not saying that January is a better month than September, just look at PS4 Jan2014 compared to Sept2014, there is a big difference, but January 2014 still sold over 280k, which is nothing to dismiss like you seem to be doing here. MS can most definitely end up losing most, if not all the ground they gained in November and December in January-March.

Do not be surprised when the XBox One drops in price during these months where people don't buy much hardware.
